Pantex Wind Farm, Panhandle, TX

TVIG completed the Pantex project in 2013 as a component of a Federal Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC). TVIG was the EPC teaming partner and key subcontractor to the prime contractor, Siemens Government Technologies. The team developed a solution and was selected based on its innovative proposal to save Pantex $2.8 MM in annual energy costs. TVIG was able to help achieve the 25% small business participation requirement through its significant scope of work and its Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business (SDVOSB) status.

The project owner for the project is the National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA), Pantex Facility; the wind farm employed Siemens 2.3 MW turbines with 101 meter rotors and totaled 11.5 MW. 

Due to the nuclear aspects of the facility, security requirements were very high and often armed Pantex security escorts were required to observe during certain construction evolutions. Security clearance requirements and the communication and coordination requirements for this project were significantly higher and more critical than typical wind farm projects.

TVIG's scope included the design and construction of the entire project including: installation of five Siemens turbines, civil and foundation construction, and the design and installation of the underground and overhead 34.5 kV energy collection and distribution system to connect the turbines to the Pantex distribution substation.

Pantex is now the largest federally owned wind farm in the USA.
