Astra Wind Farm– Happy, TX

Tennessee Valley Infrastructure Group, Inc. (TVIG) is pleased to announce the completion of construction of the 163 MW Astra project in Happy, Texas in June, 2017. TVIG performed the work through its wholly owned subsidiary Astra Construction, LLC.

The Astra project is located about thirty miles southwest of Amarillo, Texas on approximately 8,320 acres of land previously used for agricultural and ranching activities. The wind farm is owned by a subsidiary of Falvez Energy, LLC and was financed by GE. Astra is located in the Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (CREZ) in Texas. The renewable energy generated by CREZ serves the eastern Texas load areas including Houston, Dallas and San Antonio.

Initial construction on the project began in 2013 to comply with tax credit safe-harbor requirements. The project construction restarted in May 2016 and was completed in June 2017.

TVIG’s scope of work included the design engineering of the entire project, as well as the civil, foundation construction, turbine erection and construction of the operations and maintenance facility. The wind facility consists of sixty-eight GE 2.4 turbines with 107 meter rotors and a total nameplate capacity of 163.2 MW.

Tennessee Valley Infrastructure Group, Inc. and its sister company American Helios Constructors, LLC, which performs solar construction, are based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Between our two companies we have installed more than 780 Megawatts of renewable energy—730 MW of wind and 50 MW of solar.
